Manuel Merillas is one of Spain's most promising runners (he is just 22). So much so that in fact he is the current title holder of the national FEDME Championship. If the top guns announced yesterday (Hernando, Dakota and Olson) are the finest of their respective teams (Adidas, Salomon International and The North Face), Merillas will try to grab at least a podium for Mammut. Things are heating up.
If you registered for the Marathon before the closure of applications (18th January 2015), you can now check the status of your registration. By entering your email address, you can check if your place is "CONFIRMADA" ("confirmed", in Spanish) or "NO CONFIRMADA" ("not confirmed", in Spanish). Reasons for the non confirmation of places are one of these two: the registration was not payed for ("No ha efectuado el pago") or you did not prove to comply with the qualifying requirements ("No cumple requisitos").
If you think your registration has been wrongly labeled as not confirmed, you may file a complaint by writing to email@example.com before the 29th of January. Please use "Appeal" as the subject line of your message.
Three months ahead of the big day, the heavyweights of international trail running are already securing their place in Transvulcania. The confirmed male athletes so far allow for a redo of the transatlantic duel the race is well known for. On one side, Luis Alberto Hernando (absolute winner in 2014, runner-up in 2013 and ISF Ultrarunning World Champion). On the other, Dakota Jones (absolute winner in 2012) and Timothy Olson (twice top-ten finisher).
Just a few days after announcing that the Marathon (44 km) registrations were above 90%, the last remaining places are now gone and the race is not admitting new entries. As we did with the Ultramarathon, we will soon publish a checklist and open a period of appeals for the unconfirmed places, closely followed by the waiting list.
On the other hand, the Half Marathon (24 km) is also on the brink of closure and will soon be taking the same path. It is urgent for prospective runners to register as soon as possible, in order to secure their place.
The registrations for Transvulcania's Vertical Kilometer are open as of today. The race, part of the Skyrunning National Series, will take place on the 7th of May and follows exactly the same track as in 2014. It starts at the black volcanic beach of Tazacorte (0 m) and climbs up to Torre del Time (1,160 m). It is a bird eye's view from the stunning wall of El Time, the northern boundary of Caldera de Taburiente National Park.
Transvulcania's Feria del Corredor (Runners' trade fair), as well as the race number pick up, will both be held in Los Llanos de Aridane, after the local council agreed to grant the petitions of the race's organizers.
